Component Based Design – What is it?

The PHNX Home design process delivers a custom, site-built home that is fully adaptable to your property and your lifestyle. If you are looking to rebuild your home after one of our tragic wildfires, or want to build your own home but simply don’t have the money or time to invest in the traditional custom design process, a custom PHNX Home is the solution for you.

After nearly two decades designing homes, additions and remodels for a variety of clients, our team has created a library of home design features most requested by clients. Beginning with three base components – kitchen, great room and master suite – we mix, match and add parts and pieces. Bedroom suites, an office/den, a dining room and more can be combined in different ways to create an infinite variety of floor plans.

Big or small, one story or two… we create a floor plan that fits your site and your needs, in half the time that you would need to spend developing a traditional custom design.

Our streamlined process not only saves time and money during the design phase, but during construction too. The PHNX Home team can build your new home in half the time it takes to build a traditional site-built home.

A PHNX Home has no beams, no shear walls and no interior bearing walls outside of the enclosing ICF walls; this means that both design and construction are less complicated. When design and construction are simple, the project requires fewer field inspections, significantly reducing the time required to build your home. The structural consistency eliminates unknowns, making it easier to establish costs and schedule earlier in the process. Eliminating interior bearing walls means that the interior buildout and finish go amazingly fast.

Our PHNX Home is not “modular”, “pre-fab” or “manufactured”; those structures are put together by anonymous, unskilled labor somewhere else and “installed” on your property. There is no opportunity to adapt designs to your unique lifestyle, or even your property; the design is the same whether it has a mountain view in Santa Rosa or an ocean view in Ventura. If you want to add an extra bedroom or a home office to a modular home, you’re out of luck – it can’t be done.

Our PHNX Home is different – if you have a view, a PHNX Home will embrace that view. If you have grandchildren, frequent dinner parties, or work at home, a PHNX Home will give you the space you need to live your life, your way.

Whatever your needs are, the efficiencies of the PHNX Home design process enable us to provide you with more flexibility and customization than would ever be attainable with “modular”, “pre-fab” or other conceptual design/build methods.
